Tenkara hike in Marmarole

Text — Valerio Canè

A day of fishing walk in the green heart of the Marmarole. An amateur fishing adventure among the streams and forests of the Dolomitic group of the Marmarole, dear to Tiziano, the most pristine and wild among the Monti Pallidi.

Meeting place: Ponte da Rin, Auronzo di Cadore (BL).

We are immersed among some of the most famous Dolomite peaks, a true paradise for lovers of fishing, hiking and trekking.

We will cross the bridge over the Ansiei stream and follow the comfortable trail marker 270, which runs alongside the Rio Rin in the enchanting valley of the same name. The path, a comfortable mule track, runs close to the road, allowing us to approach the banks of the stream, gently following the modest slope of the riverbed, always in the cool shelter of the coniferous forest, in an exciting succession of beautiful fishing spots.

After about 3 kilometers and 190 meters of positive altitude gained through a leisurely walk, we will pass the Chalet La Primula, and upon reaching Piaza del Gobo, we will take a right, direction Northwest, on the comfortable mule track that will take us in a few steps to the delightful clearing of Casoi da Rin, where we can rest, admire the view, and enjoy a packed lunch, made up of delicious fresh local food, in a picnic style.

The highest peak of the Marmarole is the Cimon del Froppa which reaches 2932 meters above sea level.

Marmarole is a mountain group of the Dolomites in the Belluno surroundings. Located west of the Cadore Valley and north-east of the major peak of Antelao, it is known as a wild range, possibly the wildest of the entire Dolomites.

We will pass through the Val d’Ansiei to reach other splendid fishing spots, along the homonymous stream. We will do this via this beautiful connecting hiking path, which will allow us to fully appreciate the pristine beauty of the hidden forested areas. We will explore, perhaps surprising a roe deer grazing. This segment extends for 4.5 kilometers and presents a positive elevation gain of about 200 meters. We will continue along the mule track, which climbs gently along the wooded base of Monte Rusiana, until we reach Pian de Sera. An enchanting grassy clearing that hosts the characteristic Tabià Vecellio Segate, a rustic building typical of the local material culture.

This is the steepest point of the entire excursion, at about 1300 meters above sea level. From here, following our comfortable forest trail, we will gently descend through the pristine Val Pian de Sera. Until we reach the splendid sloping plateau of Pralongo, which stretches along the banks of the Ansiei stream. From here, we will approach the riverbanks for another pleasant fishing session until we reach the bridge in the Somprade area, located 1.7 kilomteters further downstream, where our fishing adventure concludes. From Somprade, the staff will transport you back to Auronzo di Cadore (10 minutes for 9 kilometers along the comfortable SR 48).
